The Weight of Keeping Christ First

Updated: Jan 26, 2024

In today's fast-paced and ever-changing world, navigating through the multitude of influences and priorities that demand our attention can be challenging. As societies, we are bombarded with messages and expectations from various sources, making it crucial for us to discern what truly matters. Keeping Christ first in our lives is one aspect that holds immense significance for many individuals and communities.

For Christians, keeping Christ at the center is a religious obligation and a way of life. It is a commitment to align our thoughts, actions, and values with the teachings of Jesus Christ. This dedication carries a weighty responsibility that can profoundly impact our lives, relationships, and world. Proverbs 3:6 proclaims, “In everything you do, put God first; he will direct you and crown your efforts with success.

First and foremost, keeping Christ first requires a genuine and personal relationship with Him. It goes beyond attending religious services or following rituals; it entails cultivating a deep connection with the Son of God. This relationship involves spending time in prayer, studying the Scriptures, and seeking His guidance in all aspects of life. By nurturing this bond, individuals can find solace, strength, and purpose in their daily endeavors. Psalm 16:11: “You make known to me the path of life; in your presence, there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.” In God's presence, we discover the true path of life. This verse teaches us that being in His presence fills us with joy and eternal pleasures.

Furthermore, keeping Christ first influences our priorities and decision-making processes in a world that often values fame, wealth, and success; prioritizing Christ means recognizing that these worldly pursuits are secondary. Instead, our focus should be on living a life of love, compassion, and service to others. This mindset transforms our interactions and relationships, creating a ripple effect that positively impacts our immediate circle and beyond. 2 Corinthians 3:18 "And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit."

Keeping Christ first also means embracing forgiveness and grace. We are all imperfect beings, prone to mistakes and shortcomings. However, by following Christ's example of forgiveness, we can cultivate an environment of compassion and understanding. This not only fosters personal growth but also contributes to the healing and unity of societies. Moreover, keeping Christ first empowers individuals to navigate through challenges and trials with resilience and hope. Life is filled with uncertainties, disappointments, and hardships. However, by anchoring ourselves in the teachings of Christ, we gain the strength to persevere. Through faith, we find solace in knowing that we are not alone in our struggles and that God's love and guidance will see us through.

There is a sense of community and shared values in societies where Christ is kept first. People come together to support and uplift one another, fostering an environment of love, acceptance, and inclusivity. This unity transcends differences and promotes harmony, understanding, and justice. It is a testament to the transformative power of keeping Christ at the center of our lives.

In conclusion, keeping Christ first is a weighty responsibility that requires dedication, intentionality, and a genuine relationship with the Son of God. By prioritizing Him, we align our lives with love, compassion, forgiveness, and grace. This commitment empowers individuals and societies to navigate life's challenges, fostering unity and positively impacting the world. As we strive to keep Christ first, we find fulfillment, purpose, and a deeper connection with God and our fellow human beings. Colossians 3:5: Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires, and greed, which is idolatry.
